May 29, 1966 – February 7, 2020
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Shannan Lee (Daigle) Blabey. Shannan came into the world on May 29,1966 at the hospital in Blind River, Ontario. At a young age she loved playing with Tonka trucks in the dirt with her cousin. She loved outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking, skating and hockey.
After making a move with her family from Iron Bridge, Ontario to Rosthern, Saskatchewan in 1980, Shannan attended the Rosthern Adventist Academy and then the Rosthern High School. Here she made many lifelong friends.
Another family move took her to Vanderhoof, B.C. in 1983. Here she attended the Nechako Valley Secondary School. Shannan spent a summer working in Hazelton, B.C. where she met the man she would eventually marry. From here she attended Canadian University College where she made many more friends.
After graduating from CUC she returned to Hazelton B.C. where she married the love of her life, Ray Blabey. To this union Tanisha Shanae and Durwin Ray were born. She was widowed after 6 years of marriage. Shannan chose to return to Rosthern to raise her children. They filled her life with adventure and much joy.
In 2004 Shannan made the move to Lacombe, Alberta to work as Assistant Residence Dean at CUC. In 2018, she became Administrative Dean. The students brought her great joy as she interacted with them and she loved to hear their life stories.
Shannan reconnected with an old high school friend, Laurel Janzen. The rekindled friendship turned into love and they married on July 1, 2018. His unconditional love and patience filled Shannan’s life with happiness. He accepted her adult children as his own.
Shannan leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband Laurel Janzen, her children Tanisha Otieno (Brian), and Durwin Blabey. Her parents Jerry and Linda Daigle and sisters Melanie Slusar (Jim) and Krista Gill (Chris) and their sons Keenan, Carter and Kelton. Daughter-in law of the late Neil Blabey and the late Alma Blabey, the late Bill Janzen and Helen. A host of brother and sister -in-laws, Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.
Shannan’s faith in God was strong, she would not want you to lose faith waiting for Jesus to come and reunite us all.

  7. I know it is long past February but we have been in India and I just saw in the Burman Magazine that Shannan was gone. It is such a shock. I first got to know Shannan and her family many years ago, when she was a young girl in Iron Bridge. She was a happy youngster and when we met her many years later she was still smiling. I know you all have many great memories of her. May God be near each of you that are remembering and missing her.
