MacRae, Catherine Ellen – 76, Port Hawkesbury, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday Feb. 5th . Born in Little Judique, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Ellen (Gillis) Tracey. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Port Hawkesbury. A loving a dedicated nurse, Catherine spent several years working at the old St. Mary’s Hospital, Inverness, Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston and also private homecare throughout the Port Hawkesbury area.
Whenever visiting Catherine’s you were guaranteed a good ole cup of tea, some of her delicious baking, and some great conversation. Catherine also had a gift for finding four leaf clovers whenever outside in the yard.
A beloved wife and mother, Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 54 years John Francis, son Kevin(St. Catharines), daughters, Tracey (Antigonish), Shara (Bernard) MacEachern (Ft.McMurray); Grandchildren, Conor and Katie MacEachern, Dylan Fredericks; brothers: Jerome(Betty) Tracey, Port Hawkesbury, Harold Tracey (Little Judique); sister: Mary Jane Tracey (Little Judique); brother-in-law Jeddy MacDonald, Judique; sister-in-law Mary Tracey (Judique); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents Catherine is predeceased by her brothers: John F (Shirley) Tracey, James Tracey, Hughie Tracey, sister: Helen Jean Tracey-MacDonald, nephew Wayne Tracey and niece Crystal Ann Tracey.
Many thanks to the many doctors, nurses, and CCA’s at St. Martha’s Hospital for the love, support and exceptional care she received while she was there, the palliative care team for making it possible for her to be home in her final days, the continuing care nurses, and home support workers for the wonderful care she received at home.
Visitation will be held on Monday Feb 10th from 2-4 and 6-9 pm Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St. Port Hawkesbury, Mass of Christen Burial will be held from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 11th at 10 am with Father Conrad Edwards officiating, Burial to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorials donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery fund or St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative Care. Funeral Arrangements are under the Care and Direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St. Port Hawkesbury. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.greensfuneralhome.ca
