Burlie Douglas February

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Douglas Scott Burlie, loving husband, father, Gramps, brother, uncle and friend to many. Doug died suddenly from a heart attack on the morning of February 3, 2020 at the age of 60.
He will be forever missed by his wife, Diane Burlie (née Oddy); his daughters, Drew Burlie (Jacob Davis) and Sydney Burlie; grandson, Hudson Davis; sister, Lesley Burlie (Kevin Lemkay);brothers, Robert Burlie (Liz Kuzmas) and Craig Burlie (Emma Martin). He was much loved by his in-laws, Patricia Oddy, Craig Oddy (Sue Oddy), Carol Oddy and his nieces and nephews, Kevin Jr., Rebecca, Hannah, Mark, Brendan, Britney, Graeme, Alyx, Gregory and Devon.
Doug was first and foremost a family man. He was an amazing and loving husband, father and Gramps who always put his family before himself. He always wanted to make life easier for those he loved. Doug was a great chef who showed his love and affection through the meals he made. He had a huge personality and loved life. He was fun, funny and had a very quick wit. Doug was a good and loyal friend to many. He loved to be at the cottage with family and to host friends there. He loved his dog, Tyson, and Tyson loved Doug just as much. They enjoyed their long, daily walks together.
Doug was a proud member of the Toronto Fire Services for 36 years where he had attained the rank of District Chief/Acting Platoon Chief. He was passionate about his chosen career and was a great mentor and role model for many in the firefighting community.
Doug was a highly regarded referee in the Toronto hockey community. As an avid hockey player in his youth, refereeing was a perfect fit. Doug started refereeing over 30 years ago. He became the Referee-in-Chief of many leagues including Toronto Fire Services, Toronto Police Services and various men’s and junior leagues.
We are thankful for the outpouring of sympathy, stories and memories that have been shared with us. It is a testament to the person he was and the impact he has had on so many. Doug’s death has devastated our family and our lives will never be the same.
Details of Doug’s Celebration of Life will follow.
