Josephine Wai Chee Chan 陳李慧慈 passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2020 in Vancouver Hospice at the age of 73. Beloved wife of Joseph Kwok Tung Chan; loving mother of Cynthia (James), Herwin (Jean), and Vince (Isabel); proud grandmother of Angelina Chung, Aidan Chan, Noah Chan, Emilia Chan, and Thomas Chan.
Josephine was born in Hong Kong, and immigrated to Canada after graduating from Sacred Heart Canossian College. She met her husband Joseph, who was smitten by her warm smile with dimples, at the Chinese Catholic Youth Organization of St Francis Xavier Church where they were married in 1972. She was always active in church, as long serving members of the Ladies’ Club and SFX Lectors, and as a participant in the Marriage Encounters program in 1999.
She will be remembered for her patience, and compassion, and devotion to her family. She trusted completely in the Lord to provide, and she had received gifts in abundance. She was especially grateful for her children’s educational attainment, comfortable living, and health. After retirement, she spent her time traveling the world and volunteering at church together with her faithful husband by her side. She loved dogs and her African violets that always bloomed under her care!
Her faith in the Lord sustained her through repeated trials with cancer over the past 40 years. It was her wish to offer her suffering as a testament of God’s love and the many miracles in her life. She passed away peacefully with family by her side in the presence of Jesus’ Divine Mercy.
Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, February 18th at 6pm at St Francis Xavier Church (438 Great Northern Way, Vancouver) where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 19th at 10am, Father Joseph Ly as celebrant. Interment to follow at the Gardens of Gethsemani (15800 32nd Ave, Surrey) at 12 noon.
