It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loved mother and grandmother, Mary at the age of 77. Mary passed peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born January 2, 1943, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Stan and Emma (Gouthro) Grant.
Mary-Kay married her love, Leonard “Lenny” MacPherson in 1963 and had three beautiful children, David, Anita and Marie. She loved a good game of Bingo, played cards every week and was part of the dart league in Point Edward for many years. Mary-Kay lived a happy life sitting outside in the yard on hot summer days with her dog, Sasha. She always decorated her house beautifully at Christmas and baked the best Christmas treats. Mary always had a freezer full of tea biscuits and cabbage rolls. Mary-Kay loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was the best grandmother and mother that anyone could ask for. She had a heart of gold, always helping others.
Mary is survived by her husband, Leonard; three children, David (Cecil), Regina, SK, Anita, Sydney and Marie (Tony), Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Kevin, Kylie (Thomas), Brandy, Christian (Heather) and Michaila; three beloved great-grandchildren, Einar, Benedict and Evelyn. She is also survived by her siblings, Sidney (Beatrice), Germaine (Dave), Darrell (Laura) and Patricia (Lawrence). Mary will be mourned by her nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Lorne (Eileen) Grant.
There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 21 at 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment at a later date.
