Obituary of Hazel Jean Las
LAS, Hazel: July 13, 1942 – December 26, 2020
Suddenly and sadly at Lincoln Park Retirement Community in Grimsby, on Saturday, December 26, 2020, Hazel Jean Las (nee Bryant) of Smithville at the age of 78. Loving mother of Bryan (Kyla), David (Megan), and John (Brittany). Proud grandmother of 9 – Kate, Sarah, John, Hunter, Liam, James, Kensie, Jacob, and Chase – who will miss Grandma Las. She is also survived by her sister Marion Binns, nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends who were part of countless fond memories. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter, parents Ray and Hazel Bryant, and her brother Ron. Hazel was born in Hamilton and raised in southern Ontario where she worked as a kindergarten teacher. In her younger years, she was active in Guiding and enjoyed traveling across Canada and the United Kingdom with her parents to visit family and friends abroad. After marrying Walter and moving to Smithville in 1975, she quickly adapted to farm life and raising a family in a small rural community. Family was a very important part of her life, as the many memories of outings, trips and backyard gatherings can attest to. Grandma’s kitchen was constantly messy with cooking and canning, but she always had time to listen, help, guide and love. She had a passion for music and singing, and her faith never wavered. She was a devoted member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, always volunteering to help lend a hand wherever she could, forming many cherished friendships along the way. Due to CoVid restrictions, a private graveside ceremony will be held at St. Martin of Tours Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to St. Luke’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Hazel Jean Las 2020..
