Dorothy Rose Tate
1927-2020
Tate, Dorothy
Rose, age 93, of Monastery, Antigonish County passed away
on December 18, 2020 in Milford Haven Home for Special Care,
Guysborough. Born in East Tracadie, she was the daughter of the late
Francis and Rebecca Jane (Boudreau)
Cotie.
Dorothy
worked as a telephone operator in Monastery in her early years. After
they closed the office, she devoted her time to helping her husband
Jack at the Parish Hall, being a good
wife, mother and member of the church and community.
She had a deep faith, was a
dedicated member of St. Peter’s Parish and was a
member of St. Peter’s CWL for over fifty years. She enjoyed her time
as a member of the Happy Tracadonians Senoirs’ Club
where she liked to embroider and chat with friends over a hot cup of
tea and lunch. Dorothy loved to have her family around. She took
great interest in all her grandchildren’s
activities. She also loved reading, making charitable
donations, visiting the sick and elderly, talking on the phone to
family and friends for hours, a good joke, music and especially the
Newfie Fever dances. Christmas, when family and
friends dropped by, was always special to her.
She looked forward to receiving and sending a long list of
cards. For Dorothy’s day to start off
right she had to have The Halifax Herald, a
tradition that continued even in the nursing
home.
She is
survived by children, Dominic (Brenda) Tate, Monastery; Pauline(Paul)
Spin, Monastery; grandchildren: Jessica (Cory), Crocker, Dillan
(Ashley), Wade, Jacob, Jonathan and Jason; and grand daughter, Zoey
“Sweetheart”.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Jack Tate, brothers: Ernest, Alfred, Bill
and Raymond; sisters, Gertrude and Rita.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish on Tuesday, December 22nd from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie on
Wednesday at 11:00 am with Reverend John Barry presiding. Burial in
