Carman MacDonald
Carman MacDonald of Moncton, passed
away on December 17, 2020 at McNair Manor, Riverview at the age of 88.
Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Carman moved to Halifax, then Sydney
and finally Dieppe, where he worked for 26 years in the Air Traffic
Control Centre.
Apart from his outstanding work
career, Carman was a force in the community, where he was heavily
involved with the Town of Dieppe, most notably in recreation. He was a
long-time member of the Dieppe Recreation Council, including holding
the position of President. He was a pillar in the development of
youth, coaching Minor Hockey and Baseball, refereeing, umpiring and
was part of the volunteer group that maintained the
“outdoor” rinks in the town back in the day. Carman was also
active with Boy Scouts (Cubs) and the Parish Council for Our Lady of
Loretto Church. He was elected as a town Council Member and was the
Deputy Mayor for the Town of Dieppe, chairing Parks &
Recreation and Public Works.
Ever the athlete and sports lover,
Carman played hockey, baseball, was an avid bowler and a member of the
Beausejour Curling Club and the Mapleton Golf Club. He did statistics
for the Moncton (AHL) teams, their (QMJHL) team, as well as the
Moncton Gagnon Beavers. He volunteered for the World Junior Baseball
Championships and the Canadian Junior Curling Championships, both held
in Moncton.
Carman has been recognized for his
community service, including an “Outstanding Citizen” Award
from the Town of Dieppe, multiple “Merit” Awards from the
Canadian Government, a “Merit” Award from the Moncton Gagnon
Beavers and the “The Queen’s Golden Jubilee” Medal
for significant contribution to Canada and their
communities.
Apart from sports, Carman along with
his wife, Marina, loved to travel and enjoyed summers at their cottage
in Cocagne
Carman is survived by his loving wife
Marina (Ashe) of 63 Years, sons Dan of Moncton NB, Blair (Cathie) of
Pleasant Point NS, Bob (Sandy) of Coquitlam BC, daughter Sherry
(Kristian) of Moncton NB, granddaughter Dr Samantha of Moncton NB,
grandson Alex of Lake Echo NS, brothers Jim (Joanie) of Toronto ON and
Douglas (Maryanne) of Morristown NJ, Brother-in-law John (Linda) of
Winnipeg MB, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family. Carman
was predeceased by his infant son Peter.
Beloved by his family, he will be
dearly missed.
A special thanks to the Staff at
McNair Manor Riverview who took such wonderful care of Carman in his
time of need.
A Service to celebrate
Carman’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel,
1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Tuesday, Dec 29, 2020 at
11:00 am with Rev. Charles Broderick presiding. COVID-19 protocols
will be in place, and wearing a mask is
mandatory.
