Obituary for
Joseph (Joe) Holoiday
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Holoiday, our dear father (grandpa, GGpa, deedee), at the age of 95. He left us peacefully in his sleep with family by his side. Joe was predeceased in 2002 by his wife of 52 years, Frances; his parents, Sam and Mary; five sisters; and five brothers.
He will be forever cherished by his children, Joyce (George), Gloria, Brian (Stephanie) and Perry; ten grandchildren, Leah, Ryan (Jill), Dean (Kessa), Will (Amber), Miranda (Blair), Kim, Terrilynn, Nikki (Matt), Brittany, and Becky; eigh great-grandchildren, Laurie, Courtenni, Alex, Zach, Colton, Preston, Elva, Lucy; three great great-grandchildren, Sophia, Zoe, and Fox; his sister, Jenny Bodnar; and innumerable extended family.
Joe was born in Cereal, Alberta, growing up in several rural communities before settling in the Beverly area in 1934. He worked at Swift’s packing plant before serving with the Canadian Armed Forces (Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury MG Regiment) in WW11. Upon his return from overseas, Joe never missed a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Beverly Cenotaph to honour the Beverly Boys who never made it home. He continued working for Swift’s (Gainers) until his retirement in 1984. He was an active member in the Beverly United Church and Beverly Optimist Club, helping umpire and coach little league baseball. Hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing crib kept him active year-round.
Joe loved life and sharing it with family was #1 on his list. His Ukrainian background brought family together to enjoy food, singing, dancing and true appreciation of each other, young and old. His sense of humor, knowledge and stories of life experiences were enjoyed by all who knew him.
A private Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 21 at 1:00 pm at Park Memorial.
Due to pandemic restrictions, livestreaming will be available by logging onto Joe’s Book of Memories page on the Park Memorial website, www.parkmemorial.com
