Judy Simmonds
1945 – 2020
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we, the family, mourn the passing of Judy Laverne Simmonds of Redcliff, AB on the 13th of December, 2020, at the age of 75 years. Judy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 37 years, Jack Simmonds and their children: Holly Reniak, Kristy (Scott) Woodside, Dana Simmonds (Maureen); grandchildren, Jordan Reniak (Levi) and Kaitlin Reniak and their father, Mike Reniak; Trenton Pickett, Kali Pickett, Sophie Onerheim and Madison Stevens; Leland Simmonds and Naressa Simmonds and their mother, Tami Simmonds; siblings, Harvey (Sonja) Giesbrecht, Randy (Carrie) Giesbrecht, Deanna (Bary) Toews, Donna (Abe) Funk, Wanda (Eric) Oliver as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Judy was predeceased by her first husband, Ron Deering; son, Robyn Deering; parents, Isaac and Helena Giesbrecht; brother and sister in-law, Garry and Heather Giesbrecht; nephews, Lonnie Giesbrecht and Jason Funk and great niece, Elan Burgess. Judy was born on August 9th, 1945, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in Wymark, Saskatchewan. She loved gardening, reading, cooking, baking, camping, travelling, and spending time with her family. Some of her fondest memories were travelling with Jack across Canada to the Maritimes, going on cruises to Mexico, Alaska and New York City as well as holidaying in Dominican, Mazatlan and Hawaii. They loved taking the trailer and wintering in Arizona. Judy loved music and enjoyed many country music festivals. She also enjoyed being able to take her girls to a Garth Brooks concert. Sightseeing and travelling through Europe with Holly to watch Kaitlin play international hockey, was one of her many cherished memories. Nothing made Jack and Judy happier than spending time with their grandchildren and experiencing all of their favourite activities. Some of these memories include: having sleepovers, baking cookies and cinnamon buns, teaching them all the tricks on how to make 1000% soup just right. Judy’s loving nature and quick witted humour will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s, and the palliative team of nurses, doctors and Health Care Aids for their care and compassion. They can never say thank you enough for all the love and care that you gave to their mother. A Celebration of Judy’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2323 Yonge Street Suite 800, Toronto, ON., M4P 2C9 or to St. Joseph’s Home Covenant Foundation , 156 – 3 Street N.E., Medicine Hat, AB., T1A 5M1.
