Vera Brooke January 1919 – December 2020
Vera (Stead) Brooke was born on January 12, 1919. Vera was born in England, the youngest of 5
siblings. She is predeceased by… well just about everyone. Vera was married to her husband Raymond
for 51 years. They moved to Canada in 1959 with their daughter Maureen. Once in Canada, they lived
in Downsview where Raymond worked at Northwestern Hospital and Vera worked at a car parts factory
called Bowmans.
When they retired, they purchased their first home in Beaverton, across the street from their daughter
Maureen. Ray and Vera lived life to the fullest, sharing moments with Maureen and Jim, travelling often
and watching their Grandchildren grow up.
Vera moved to Newmarket in 1993 after the passing of Ray. After a short stay with Maureen and Jim,
Vera moved into Hamilton Place Senior Non-Profit formerly called Cedarview Lodge. Vera was actively
involved in her Hamilton Place Community, singing and dancing and serving on the board for more than
20 years.
At the age of 100 Vera celebrated her life with family and friends. She treated everyone to a song and
shared some memories. Vera will be missed by many residents, staff and the board at Hamilton Place.
On December 10, 2020 just shy of her 102 birthday, Vera passed away peacefully in her own home.
Vera was able to share her last moments with her daughter Maureen and Grandchildren Kim and Jamie.
Vera will be deeply missed by her only daughter Maureen (pre-deceased by Jim). Vera was a proud
grandma to Kim Weiman (Chris) and Jamie Cleland (Nancy). She felt fortunate to see many of her great
grandchildren grow up and start families of their own Josh Cleland (Jen), Alysha Bailey (Tyler), Kristen
Weiman (Chris), Jordie Cleland (Shelby), and Samantha Weiman (Matthew). Vera had two great-great
grand children Levi and Mya.
Vera had an incredible life and felt extremely fortunate to be in good health until the last few weeks of
her life. To all she knew, she says “celebrate my incredible life and remember me with a smile, not
tears. So long dear friends.”
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family will be celebrating Vera’s life privately
