Later, José decided to change professions and he became a Photogrammetrist. In 1965, he moved his family to Brazil and then again in 1971, José decided to relocate to Vancouver, B.C. as he wanted a better life for his family.
In Vancouver, José worked as a welder for most of his career until retirement. In 1987, the Portuguese Canadian Seniors Foundation was established, and José became the First President and remained president for several years. His passion was reading biblical books and often shared and discussed the bible with family and friends. José also enjoyed watching the World Cup Soccer games and Stanley Cup playoffs. Camping in the summertime and being surrounded by his family also brought him great joy.
