Frederick Frank “Fred” Phillips Sr. – age
77, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at home.
He was the son of the late Charlie and Madeline (Poulette) Phillips,

Fred was well-known for his walks, his stories, songs and poems, and
his love of life. As many knew, he was an avid chess player. Fred was
a highly respected Elder, community icon and loved by every person
from infant to Elder, they all knew Poppa Fred. He loved his
Mi’kmaq language and culture, and spoke fluently in
M’ikmaq and taught the language to whoever wanted to learn.
He really enjoyed teaching the Mi’kmaq language to the
children, elders, families, teachers, and everyone in his community of
Annapolis Valley First Nation. He was also respected by
Mi’kmaq organizations, such as Mi’kmaw
Kinamatnewey and Mi’kmaw Conservation Group as a Knowledge
Keeper of the Mi’kmaq language and culture. He definitely
lived to the beat of his own drum. Visitation will be held from 12:00
