It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to John Treacy who passed away peacefully on Friday November 27, 2020 at the age of 87. Johnny is survived by his loving wife Ailish nee Bergin; his son John, and his daughter Bridget (Breda) and her husband David Wade. He will forever be remembered as the best Popser ever by his granddaughters Ailish and her husband Kyle Church, Siobhan, Fionnula and her partner Jacob Gosselin, Claire, and Audrey.
Johnny was born on July 20, 1933 in rural Ireland near the town of Ballinkillen in County Carlow. He emigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Toronto where he met the love of his life Ailish. They married on June 3 1961, raised a family in Toronto, then later moved to Cambridge to be close to their daughter and her family. Johnny served on the Toronto Police Force during his early career, after which he spent the rest of his working years within the insurance industry, eventually opening his own brokerage in Toronto in the 1980s. Johnny was very athletic and had a passion for tennis, playing the game with friends and family whenever possible. Johnny (Popser) loved his granddaughters and spent countless hours playing dress up, mixing up some “witches brew”, and telling Irish tales. He will be sadly missed by his family and close friends throughout North America and back home in Ireland.
Johnny was a true Irishman, he held strong in what he believed in, he gave more than he received, he loved to celebrate with family and friends, and he told the best jokes.
A small private ceremony will be held for Johnny at Lounsbury Funeral Home.
