Thomas Gerald’s Obituary
WESTVILLE – With broken hearts and profound sadness, the family of Thomas Gerald Phalen, 77, Westville, formerly of Linacy and Trenton, announce his passing on Saturday, November 28, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Harry and Margaret (DeYoung) Phalen. Gerald was employed as a welder with the former Trenton Works for many years. He was a very talented musician, having mastered many instruments. Gerald enjoyed playing, singing and listening to Country, Gospel and Blue Grass music. He volunteered many years, sharing his musical gifts with the guest of several local nursing homes. Gerald’s greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family, who were everything to him. He looked forward to the many “jam sessions” held with his grandchildren and musical friends. Gerald possessed a deep faith in his Lord and the promise of life everlasting. He was a loving husband of 55 years, devoted father and doting grandfather, who will be dearly missed by those he loved.
Surviving are the love of his life, Sally (Morrison); daughters, Deanie (Ralph) MacLean, Rhonda (Bill) Pyche, Sheila (Paul) MacNeill and Shari (Mark) MacDonald, all of Trenton; grandchildren, James, Tommy, Aaron, Markus, Nathaniel, Luke and Alaura; sister, Mabel Fraser, Trenton; brothers, William (Shirley) Phalen, Country Harbour; Bruce (Shirley) Michie, Calgary, Alta.; several aunts; an uncle; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Brenda McMullen; brothers, David, Edward “Ed” and Pat Phalen.
If desired, donations may be made in Gerald’s memory to Christ the King Cemetery.
In honour of Gerald’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held in Christ the King Cemetery at a later date.
Gerald’s family wish to express their gratitude to Dr. Park for the wonderful care he received throughout his illness and to Cathy MacLean for always “fitting him in”. They wish to thank the wonderful Aberdeen Hospital ICU and PCU staff for their care and compassion. Finally, to the many QEII, Halifax specialists and staff that endeavoured to help, the family are most appreciative.
“Go with our love and soar high with the Angels!”
