Obituary
Klaus passed away suddenly at the age of 78. Klaus grew up on the family farm in Germany and finished grade 9 in one room school house in Schwissel Germany. He trained as a bricklayer and finished first in his class. He worked various jobs and eventually managed and owned a busy gas station and auto repair shop in Hamburg. Klaus always read the newspaper daily and this was how he learned English. “Bauernschlau” in German means smart farmer which would best describe him. He immigrated to Canada in 1981 with his family with the dream of a better life for him and his family. Klaus and Helga transformed the Bonaventure Lodge into a successful business through the 1980’s and 1990’s. It was very much a family operated business with the Reher philosophy of work hard and you will succeed. Klaus could be heard many times saying “Time is Money” and had a work ethic second to none. He remarried in 1997 to Linda Tumanda and continued the tradition of operating the Lodge and working hard. Klaus was a very private person who could be difficult and gruff at times. However, he was also very generous with his family and community. There are many people who he had helped through the years. He was undoubtedly someone that made an impression when you met him. Klaus had suffered a major stroke in 2016 and was fortunate to live at home with the excellent care of his wife Linda. The family will be forever grateful to Linda for the care and devotion to Klaus in the last years of his life. Klaus is survived by his second wife Linda, three sons, Sebastian (Birgit) of North Carolina, Andreas of Bathurst, Florian (Carol) of New Mills, Step-daughter Lhaileen (Jeremie) of Nova Scotia, six grandchildren Alexander (Ashley), Katharina, Anneliese (Spencer), Jeremy (Michaelle), Kaitlyn (Mike) and Malcolm, 3 great-grandchildren Jacob, Emma and Eloise. He was predeceased by his first wife Helga, two brothers and one sister.
The family would like to thank the staff of Campbellton Regional Hospital for the care Klaus had received.
