BOWERS, Merle Daniel – It is with great sadness that the family of Merle Daniel Bowers, age 73, announce his peaceful passing at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on the 19th November 2020. Merle was born to Victor and Ethel Bowers from Arcadia on 11th March 1947. He was a good husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 52 years Elaine (Thibeau) Bowers. His two loving sons Danny Bowers and Scott (Kim) Bowers. He was very proud of his three grandchildren Jordan Bowers, Zoee (Ryan) Bowers and Baylee (Travis) Bowers and loved them very much. As well as his faithful four-legged friend Teddy. Also survived by his sisters Jerry Leblanc, Audrey (Larry) Burke, June (Sylvestre) Muise and brother Eldon (Carol) Bowers and by sister in law Dorothy Bowers and many cousins, nieces and nephews. One special nephew Allan Winters of which he shared a special bond. Allan spent a lot of time with Merle while he was in hospital for the past two months. Merle always had a big smile on his face when Allan came to visit him. He was predeceased by his sister Hilda (Eugene) Winters and brother Raymond Bowers and brother in law Louis Leblanc. Merle was a former co-owner of Fitzer’s Fine Clothing on Main St. in Yarmouth. He also worked at The Yarmouth Royal Store Men’s shop, Jackson’s of Yarmouth and Shapiro’s Menswear. He was always friendly, outgoing and loved nature. He spent many years working on his woodlot and planting vegetable gardens for his family. Loved music and dancing. Both Elaine and Merle were involved in a dance group called East Coast County Dancers and enjoyed traveling around the province with all our dancing buddies and made many friends. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the VON Day Program in which he attended one day a week and enjoyed the people and activities. We wish to thank the VON for their weekly visits which allowed Merle to be at home. Special thanks to Robin Pottie and his caregiver Tina MacDonald for their wonderful care and kindness. You became like family to us. A big thank you to all the wonderful doctors and nurses on 4 East and 4 South for your kindness and compassion also to Dr Tom Muise who was Merle’s family doctor for years. Cremation has taken place at Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium and a graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday 28 November at the Lake George Cemetery. Donations in his memory can be made to the Tri County VON, The Alzheimer’s Society or NS Lung Association. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, social distancing guidelines must be followed.
