Kathleen’s Obituary
Kathleen “Kay” Matilda (nee Arac) Doucet (May 31,1928 – Nov 20, 2020)
Mom was never one for fanfare. On Friday morning, she rose and breakfasted with her housemates at The Saunders Rest Home, sat down to watch the news and quietly slipped away at the admirable age of 92. She leaves behind her five daughters: Anne (Pat Cottreau, deceased), Jeannie (Harvey Wolfe), Aline (Jody Bailey), Carola, and Patty (Shaun Saunders), who – nonetheless – feel that it was way too soon. Also missing their grandmother are Matthew Doucet, Ryan & Jaime Baker, Jonathan & Jenica Saunders, René Doucet Cottreau and Noah Wolfe.
Wife, mother and grandmother. Nurse. RCAF Officer. Cape Bretoner. Member of Clan MacNeil.
Mom also was not much for “ostentation” …… but these are the things of which she was most proud. At the age of 28, she traded North Sydney and nurses’ training for cadet camps, evac choppers and a commission in the RCAF. Once, while stationed in Summerside, she even delivered a baby….in the back of a Volkswagon….in a blizzard! (She would have been happy to tell you the story!) At 30, she married the dashing younger officer (the late Lt Col JH Doucet) who pursued her relentlessly and they spent the next 33 years globe-trotting and raising a family before retiring to the Annapolis Valley.
After 55 years of marriage, John predeceased her, but they are now reunited and will be interred together with a small graveside service on November 24, 2020 at 3:00 pm in the St. Monica’s Cemetery, Senator Street in Middleton, the Rev. John MacPherson officiating. She would like that. Sounds Scottish. She’d have winked and told him he “had the curse of the blue eyes” ….
Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
