Andrea Hopmeyer
June 19, 1967 – November 20, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce her passing, in Pasadena, California at the age of 53 after a brave battle with breast cancer.
Andrea is survived by her daughter Jennifer Gorman of Pasadena, CA, parents Estelle and Stanley Hopmeyer, and sisters Joanne Hopmeyer (Steve Danner) of Flagstaff, AZ and Miriam Hopmeyer (Michael Beigleman) of Montreal. She is also survived by her niece Rachel Danner and nephews Eric Danner and Mark Beigleman, aunt Jackie Saunders Ritchie (Brian Saunders) of Victoria, BC, and her cousins Sat-Sung Kalman Hassid (Hanoc Hasid) of Israel and Hilary Kalman Walle-Jensen (Jorgen Walle-Jensen) of Vancouver, BC.
After attending St. George’s School of Montreal and Marianopolis College, Andrea graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Clark University in Worcester, MA. She continued her education at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign where she earned a doctorate in Psychology.
Andrea joined the faculty at Occidental College in 1996, where she later became a tenured Professor. She had a passion for her work and leaves behind a legacy of teaching excellence, an active research program and numerous peer-reviewed publications. Andrea cared deeply about the success of all her students.
Andrea was a loving and caring person who had a passion for life and a smile for everyone. She was always very active, enjoyed taking long walks and swimming. Most of all, she was immensely proud of her daughter’s accomplishments, a best friend to her sisters, and a devoted daughter. There are so many cherished memories of doing things together, phone calls and endless FaceTime calls. She was taken away too soon. We will love you always and forever.
