CONSTANCE BEVERLEY ALLEN (nee Byman)
June 15, 1935 – October 29, 2020
Connie was born June 15, 1935 in Lac Du Bonnet, the youngest daughter of Arvid and Dorothy Byman (nee Vicner). She is predeceased by 2 sisters, her parents and her daughter, Kelly. Connie is survived by her son, Brooks (Wanda) and her two grandchildren, Ashley and Steven, and two great grandchildren Dakota and Joshua.
Connie spent her youth in the Old Pinawa and Lac du Bonnet areas. Later she moved to Winnipeg and, like many others, worked at Eaton’s as well as several other businesses.
After marriage and two kids, Connie got a reputation as a Barbie clothier. She’d spend hours sewing blouses, skirts, dresses, vests, winter coats, you name it. Often there would be dozens of packaged Barbie outfits on the kitchen table, ready to be sold.
Camping was also a common weekend pastime, for our family in our small canvas camper-trailer. Eventually, this love to the outdoors would lead to a cottage at Lee River. Mom was rarely ever more at-home than when she was in the bush – quite often picking blueberries.
Connie always had a special affinity for horses and dogs. Her dog, Candy, would reap the benefit of her experience producing Barbie outfits by getting a complete winter outfit herself (complete with a coat and booties). She spent her last birthday in Birds Hill park, spending one-on-one time with a black (Clydesdale looking) horse and its trainer. She didn’t stop smiling the entire day!
She loved puzzles, music, collecting novelty am/fm radios, and reality TV. She had binders of statistics of every Survivor and Bachelor episode. Who was voted off and who got a rose were carefully documented and labelled.
Connie especially loved casual dinners with Brooks at 5 Guys (love those fries), and she looked forward to his visits, he never came without a Tim’s coffee and a treat for her.
Connie was active until the end, taking Winnipeg Transit buses all over the city to various appointments, shopping, and just for a ride. She was always up for a car ride, she never really cared where.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
