Audrey’s Obituary
Passed from this life on Saturday November 7, 2020 at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She was 86 years of age. Audrey is survived by her kids, Cathy Hartley (Jeff), Carolyn Stratford – Rylott (Brian), Andy Stratford (Lana) and Sharon Taylor (Dan). She was pre-deceased by her husband Howard, sons John and Jim, grandchildren Kate, Kevin, Matthew and her brother George Bennett. Survived by her siblings Gord Bennett (Carolyn) and Marilyn Hopton (Murray) and many nieces and nephews.
Two people started a good thing in 1952 and that story fills hours’ worth of memories, many of which are captured in ‘letters from the farm’. We each treasure our volumes of transcribed letters she had written to her parents Fred and May Bennett when she worked a night shift job many years ago. Hers is a story rich with love, laughter and life experiences. From raising 6 kids on the farm, a career at the WRMS to retirement at 60 that left her to travel to her hearts content, hers was a life well lived. She met many good friends along the way in addition to those she held dear for years. She grew up in Brantford, became a life-long member of the Glen Morris community, moved to Paris and finally to Cambridge. She travelled to many places internationally, spent countless winters in her motor home in both Myrtle Beach and Florida and in between as much time as she could at the cottage in Parry Sound. She loved swimming! A heated pool was her best friend as it kept her active till the end. She was a lover of animals, birds, music, reading and games. Above all else she loved her family. Nothing made her happier than her kids, the grands and the greats. Many others considered her their adopted mom – her heart had room for all. In the end, that same heart wore out.
