Obituary of Brenda Mavis Allen
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of Brenda Mavis Allen, of Moose Jaw, SK on November 6th, 2020. Brenda was born on June 15th, 1958 in Assiniboia, SK to Neva Ribey & Sam Batty. She lived a full 62 years of this wonderful life.
Brenda was fierce. Although not a word she would use to describe herself (she was as humble as she was fierce). She pursued life’s challenges and opportunities with grace and determination. Smart, resourceful, genuine and a brilliant ray of light, Brenda’s hard work, pride and dedication showed in everything she did.
Anyone who knew Brenda was most likely graced by her kind, generous soul and gentle demeanor. With a sweet & infectious spirit, she garnered an abundance of friendships over the years, which she cherished deeply.
Brenda was wildly independent and was never deterred when told there was something she couldn’t do – she was a woman who figured things out and got things done. In the fall of 2019, Brenda completed her dream of building a little cottage at Buffalo Pound Lake, SK tackling every nail, shingle, and sheet of drywall on her own accord. Her ability to learn new skills and problem solve was second nature. Her cottage was her happy place, a day at the lake was a day well spent.
Gifted in so many ways, she was always eager to try new things. From ziplining, snowboarding, travelling with loved ones or exploring the Rocky Mountains with her partner Frank; when presented with an opportunity, she seized it with a smile on her face and a sweet giggle to follow (even if it didn’t go quite as planned).
Her daughters, Heather & Kindra, and her grandchildren, Ella & Kip, were her pride and joy. She rarely missed a single sporting event, recital or performance and beamed with pride at every occasion. She loved nothing more than spending time with family & friends or working on projects (and there were many!). She had a special knack for all things crafty and was never short on ideas for her next endeavour.
Family members keeping her memory alive include her partner, Frank Sagal, daughters, Kindra Sowden (Nathan), Heather Allen (Mike), grandchildren, Ella & Kip Sowden, her siblings, Shary Edmunds (Cal), Randy Batty (Cynthia), Wanda Ewart, Ryan Batty & Evan Batty, lifelong friend of 54 years, Bev Zerr (Dennis), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
To honour Brenda, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
