Yon Art Wong 1949 2020

Obituary of Yon Art Wong
Yon Wong, age 71, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2020.
He was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. He moved to Black Diamond, Alberta in the 1980’s.
Yon was that rare combination of a person who excelled in many areas but had no inflated ego. He was an accomplished guitarist and had a particularly fine ear for well crafted music. He particularly loved female vocalists. His carpentry projects were crafted with such skill that he would sometimes use a razor knife rather than a pencil when marking cut lines. Yon also developed a keen interest in flying, both model planes and real gliders. Yon was also one of the original volunteers that put on the annual Diamond Valley food bank Christmas concerts that lasted many years. Yon’s computer skills were well known in our community. He was our “go to guy” for any computer problems. He was also responsible for creating a lasting legacy by coming up with the idea of video recording Beneath the Arch music concerts. Yon spent hundreds of volunteer hours editing the footage to come up with a very credible archive for the performers. A passion for fine foreign films led to Yon’s creation of the Dog Tooth Film screenings at our local library where we were treated to some great movies. Other interests included star gazing, horticulture, bird watching and sports, especially Formula 1 racing. He was a romantic, a softie. He made no enemies. Yon Wong will be missed and he will always be remembered by all who knew him as a true gentle man.
He is survived by two sisters, Sandra Wong of Cochrane; Alberta, Freda Hopper nee Wong, of Richmond BC; companion Jackie Blight as well as many friends.
A celebration of life is planned for his birthday July 10, 2021, venue to be determined.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Yon
