Linda Louise Perreaux Osterbeck Tuesday January 21st 2020

Linda Louise Perreaux (Osterbeck)
August 13, 1951 – January 21, 2020
Linda wasn’t known to command much attention, and those who know her husband and their four boys would understand how hard it could be to get a word in edgewise.
Linda loved and raised her four “smart aleck” children while working part time and volunteering in her community. Known to let loose on occasion with her beloved daughters-in-law when the mood struck, she certainly made her own mark and memories.
Born and raised in Antler, Sask., Linda met her first health challenges early with a case of meningitis she narrowly overcame.
She was sixth born among nine siblings of a hard-working farm family. Linda moved to Winnipeg and worked as an assistant in a nursing home where she first developed a knack for caring for people. In 1976, after marrying Gilles Perreaux and starting a family in Winnipeg, she returned to be close to her family and began a long stay in Bellegarde.
Having been raised on a real farm, Linda was a little perplexed by her husband’s desire to turn a small acreage outside of Bellegarde into a hobby farm. Pigs, chickens, cows and a horse brought a familiar feeling to her new home. With D.I.Y. animal butchering and a vast vegetable garden with the help of kids, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews and anyone who wanted to take home a few hundred pounds of harvest, life on the farm was rarely boring, and the memories remain for everyone involved.
When the thrill of the tiny farm passed, Linda and Gilles decided it was time to make their home in a community they loved. Deciding to purchase, and completely renovate their new home, Linda embraced choosing the touches that make a house a home. Something stuck with her in this phase of life and Linda became something of a handy woman managing various large and small projects with (or without) the help and encouragement of her husband.
When Gilles passed away in 2016, Linda decided that a low maintenance lifestyle was finally in order. She moved into a condo in Redvers where she met and shared daily life with a fine grouping of area retirees, and great people embracing a simpler life.
After many years of enjoying this newfound comfort, Linda became a “medical poster child” for a little-known affliction that causes Parkinson’s-like symptoms and took the challenge head on. She recovered from an unusual procedure that gave her back her mobility. Linda then travelled, spending time with children, grandchildren and siblings across the country and in Alaska and Phoenix.
Her most challenging illness came unexpectedly and quickly took that rediscovered mobility. She bravely faced brain cancer, knowing this fight was not one she could win. Once she decided to decline treatment, she quickly dispelled tears, saying “Decision 2020: Me and Donnie, going down together” referring to her favourite U.S. President.
Linda died in hospice at the age of 68 from Glioblastoma. A rare aggressive form of brain cancer that affects fewer than 1500 Canadians each year. She was predeceased by her husband Gilles Perreaux, her mother Jean Osterbeck (nee Rutherford), father Jake Osterbeck and sister Mavis Logan (nee Osterbeck). She will be missed by her sons: Leslie, Denis, Jeremy and Jeffrey, her daughters: Kim, Annette, Susan and Nadine, and her ten grandchildren: Julianne, Caleb, Sophie, Rowan, Megan, Jacob, George, Benjamin, Alexandre and Harper.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Maurice R.C. Church, Bellegarde, Sask. Rev. Ronald Andree will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, after which a luncheon will be held in the Bellegarde Community Hall.
Donations in Linda’s name can be made to STARS Air Ambulance, 2640 Airport Road, Regina, Sask., S4W 1A3.
