Jewel Beatty Cooney 2020

Obituary of Jewel Beatty Cooney
COONEY, Jewel Beatty
December 19, 1932 – October 31, 2020
Peacefully and with his hand being held by his life partner Bettie and with his children by his side, the family announces with great sadness the gentle passing of soulmate, father, father-in-law and grandfather, Jewel Beatty Cooney in his 87th year.
He leaves behind his loving wife of over 64 years Bettie Emily (Kellett) and children Charles (Frances) Cooney, Debbie (Chris) George and Diane (Myles) Reid and grandchildren, Jessica (Brian), Rebecca (Scott), Kevin (Jackie), Nicole (Charles), and Melissa (Ryan). Predeceased by his sister June and grandson Matthew.
Born in Ivanhoe, Ontario, relocated to Bath and attended KCVI. He entered the first machinist apprenticeship program offered at Alcan Kingston Works and worked continuously in the aluminum industry for over 50 years.
A dedicated and faithful member of Princess Street United Church (Kingston) and then later at St. Paul’s United Church (Ajax). He was a proud member of the Masonic order for over 60 years. He was a member of Royal Edward of Cataraqui Lodge, No. 92 in Kingston and a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, also in Kingston.
Life lessons taught to the family included his love of Canadian baseball, meticulous attention to detail, his unwavering moral compass, patriotism, clever witticisms and strong work ethic, all of which he instilled in his children and grandchildren.
Jewel, affectionately known as JB was a competitive curler, Past-President of Kingston Curling Club, passionate lawn bowler, dedicated gym member well into his 80’s, helpful neighbour, and a gardener who loved a well-kept lawn, but had a strong dislike to both dandelions and squirrels.
He was quick to remind you that there was no such thing as tin-foil, it’s aluminum foil!
The family would like to thank the staff at Providence Manor for the compassionate care Jewel received.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jewel’s memory can be made to the United Church of Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private family graveside service was held on Wednesday, November 4th, at Cataraqui Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were entrusted to James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Jewel Beatty Cooney 2020..
