It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kevin Johnston alongside family, following a brave battle with cancer. Cherished son of Mary Johnston and the late Stuart Johnston, step-son of the late Jim Ferrell, much loved brother of Katherine Newsome (Craig) and very proud and special “Uncle Kevo” to Aidan and Bree Newsome. Kevin struggled with mental illness and overcame many obstacles before him, however, he always maintained a wonderful sense of humour and positive outlook on life. Kevin loved spending time in Michigan with his father when he was young and later in life at Stu’s Pub with friends. Kevin also enjoyed spending time at his mom’s home where he felt most comfortable. A perfect day for Kevin was listening to rock music along with making people laugh, and sharing the occasional beer or joint with his closest friends. Kevin worked in the construction industry. Later in life Kevin was eager to take on any job where he could lend a helping hand. Kevin gives thanks to his many friends who he always appreciated spending time with. His last year spent with family and friends was special and he acknowledged that every day. He touched the hearts of all who knew him. So many people cared for Kevin, thank-you all, especially the team at Canadian Mental Health Association, Oncology Team at BGH, Bayshore Health-care (Nurse Gita), Outreach RN Tracy Stachera, Dr. Gladstone and the entire team at Stedman Community Hospice for all your care and support. Cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to Toll Funeral Home. Due to COVID restrictions, we will celebrate Kevin in a virtual manner. To view a slideshow remembering Kevin’s life, please look for links on social media and Toll Funeral Home website within the following days. If wished, donations to the Brant Community Healthcare Foundation or the St. Joseph’s Lifecare Foundation (Stedman Community Hospice) are appreciated.
