Obituary of Stuart Lorne Smith
SMITH: Stuart Lorne –
A lifelong resident of Harwich Township, Stuart Smith passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus with family at his side on Thursday, October 29, 2020, the day before his 87th birthday.
Born in Chatham, Stuart was the son of the late Harold and Beatrice (McDonald) Smith.
Beloved husband of the late Fran Smith (nee Davis).
Loving father of Cheryl McKellar (Scott) of Brantford, Pat LeGroulx (Dale) of Thamesville, Ken Smith (Chéri) of Harwich Township, Laurie Young of Blenheim, Britton Smith of Toronto and Barry Smith of Chatham.
Proud Grandpa to Justin McKellar (Allison), Lauren McKellar (Rad Reick); Derek Sandercock (Dione Hunter), Jamie Hutson (Will); Devon Smith (fiancée Lindsay Wright), Victoria Smith (Bryce Voets-Sterling); and Katie Smith (Mitch).
Great-Grandpa to 8 great-grandchildren.
Dear brother to Rev. Marjorie Smith of London.
Predeceased by his brother James Harold Smith.
Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Stuart farmed his entire life on the century farm. He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with his wife Fran. The two of them loved to travel, and they ventured all across Canada and the United States in their RV. Stuart enjoyed restoring cars, and enjoyed many friendships as a member of the Kent Historic Auto Club. Stuart had been a member of the Tecumseh Sydenham Lodge No. 245 AF and AM, Thamesville.
A Private Family interment will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations made in memory of Stuart to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
