Obituary of Melvin Andrew Bobst
Melvin Andrew Bobst (Mel) of Lumsden, SK. passed from his life on earth to his new life with his Saviour, Lord and friend, Jesus Christ on Monday, October 26, 2020. Born on November 24, 1935, he was nearing his 85th birthday. He is loved and appreciated by many, from children to seniors!
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sharon; three children, Ken (Pam), Jackie (Howard) and Jim (Chantel); daughter-in-law Rhonda; nine grandchildren Jennifer, Jason, Jeff, Krista, Nicole, Gabrial, Jordan, Hannah and Jasmine; ten great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law Gayle (Barry), Carol (Phil) and Rick (Eileen); and numerous nephew, nieces and cousins; and many wonderful friends
He was predeceased by his beloved son, David Melvin (2002) ; parents, Lucy (nee: Lavanway, 1975) and David Bobst (1982); sisters Margaret Hitchens (2018) and Mildred (2020); and brother-in laws, Harry and Carl.
Mel was born in his parent’s farm home and raised in the Hardy District, always proud of his Big Muddy roots. Leaving there in 1951 to continue his occupation in Maintenance with CN Railways, he lived in several prairie towns. In 1960 he married Sharon (Roby) of the Briercrest district and ten years later and six more moves later, came to Lumsden, SK. where they have lived for fifty years.
As a youth, Mel lived and loved the rural life where he helped his father farm with horses. His passion for breeding, raising and riding horses was re-ignited in retirement. As a true cowboy in heart and mind, he could still be found riding occasionally in this fall season of 2020. But, the deepest passion of Mel’s life began in 1968 at age 34 when he chose to receive Jesus Christ to be his Saviour, Lord and close friend. His life was dramatically changed. His strong, simple faith increasingly impacted his daily life. So, when he drew his last breath this past Monday, he immediately transitioned into the glorious Presence of his beloved friend and Lord, Jesus Christ, in his new eternal home! Many family and friends are rejoicing with Mel today, anticipating their moment to join him and many others already there.
We sorrow not as those who have no hope.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Many thanks to the compassionate, outstanding nursing staff on Ward 5a, RGH.
