Doug Best Friday October 23rd 2020

C. Douglas Best “Doug”, born November 19, 1951, Nanaimo, BC; died peacefully on October 23, 2020 in Perth, ON.
Beloved husband to Dawn Best (Storen); predeceased by parents Ted and Joyce Best of Oakville; loving brother to Trudy Warner (Dave), of Mississauga, brother-in-law to Sandy McBay (Rick) and Brian Storen; loving father to Cameron (Kathleen), and Stephen (Allison); dedicated ‘Poohbah’ to Alana, Conor, Sarah Best of Richmond, ON, and Arley, Isaac, Esme Best of Toronto, ON.
Doug attended Nepean High School in Ottawa, then Oakville Trafalgar High School, where he met the “Oakville crew” with whom he developed lifelong loyal and dedicated friendship. After attending Waterloo Lutheran University, Doug met and married Dawn in Kitchener. Dawn and Doug ultimately moved to Ayr, Ontario to lay roots and start a family. Doug became an active member within the community at Knox United Church, with the International Plowing Match, and as an ardent fan and supporter of Cameron and Stephen in the hockey rink, on the ball diamond, and at the football field.
A strong analytical mind led to a long and healthy career as a proud CMA in the KW Area – starting at the Waterloo Co-Op and retiring from Manulife Financial. With a passion for real estate investing, he was able to pursue this ‘hobby’ with much success and enjoyment with partnerships in Kitchener, Perth and Florida.
Together with Dawn, Doug built the cottage in Perth to be the ‘Cornerstone’ of the Best family. A labour of love, the cottage was a decades long passion that saw Dawn and Doug able to realize their dream of retiring to the lake in 2011. A gathering place for many friends and family throughout the years, Doug could often be found in one of “his chairs” surveying and revelling in the fun, laughter, and legacy of The Cottage.
Doug / Dougie / Douggles / Mr. Best / Dad / Poohbah will be remembered for his love of life, a richness in personality and soul, a strong work ethic, his commitment to his community, his loyal friendships, his sharp wit and sense of humour, and most importantly, his dedication and fervent love for his parents, sister, wife, children, grandchildren and extended family.
We wish to thank the staff and physicians at the Perth Hospital for the care and compassion they provided to Doug and our family in recent months.
