Morris Eric January 09 1932

ERIC JOSEPH MORRIS of Lethbridge, Alberta passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Eric was born on January 9, 1932 in Ottawa, Ontario to Leslie and Lucy Morris. He spent his childhood in Ottawa before joining the Canadian Armed Forces, starting his service in Korea. Before leaving for Korea, he married Geraldine (Gerry, Dean) Moyse from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Eric was accompanied by Gerry and their three sons as he served throughout Canada and West Germany with various field regiments of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery over 45 years. This is including time at National Defense Headquarters (NDHQ) in Ottawa and another 10 years as a senior civilian military consultant. He was proud of his role as a “Peace Keeper” in the military service and rose through the non-commissioned ranks from Gunner to Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) and was the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the 1RCHA field regiment (Royal Canadian Horse Artillery) in Europe, prior to his work at NDHQ. In his retirement, Eric was active and held a variety of positions with the Korean Veterans Association in Lethbridge. He was a soft-spoken man of few words, but well respected by all ranks in the service and always got the job done.

Eric is predeceased by his wife, Gerry in February 2020 and survived by their sons, Rick (Deborah), Grant (Marilyn) and Brent (Lisa) and several grand and great-grandchildren. He affectionately and jokingly referred to his three sons as “Those Rotten Kids”. If he gave you a hard time, that meant he liked/loved you. If you got the silent treatment, your status was questionable. Dad was a tough man with a soft heart!

Eric was the last one remaining of his siblings. He was predeceased by his sister, Anita and his brothers, Robert (Bob) and Nolan (Noley).

A Private Service will be held for family and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later appropriate date for both Eric and Gerry. Memorial donations to The Lethbridge Military Museum (20th Independent Field Battery), 337 Stubb Ross Road South, Lethbridge, AB, T1K 7N3 in Eric’s name would be appreciated.
