Regina Genevieve Myers (Leblanc)
Tragically our beloved mother/grandmother, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 four days after a serious fall in Oakwood Nursing Home, Dartmouth. Born in Plymouth, Yarmouth Co., on April 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Laura LeBlanc. As a teen, she came to Dartmouth and worked at the Harbour Café Restaurant. There she eventually met her husband Cyril, settled in Eastern Passage and had five children. Our mother selflessly devoted her life to her husband and children. Mom always encouraged and supported us in every way. Her faith was very important to her, attending St. Andrew’s Church and in later years also the Shearwater Chapel. Mom belonged to different church groups such as Children of Mary and the Seniors By The Sea Social group. As a volunteer, she enjoyed working with children with special needs at a Woodside school. Later she and Dad volunteered for the Seniors Garden Club and the Mall Walking Club. Mom had a heart of gold, loved socializing, getting “dolled up” and dancing. Jan Ritcey, her hairdresser of many years, would do Mom’s hair weekly so she would look beautiful. She started a doll collection as she never had a doll as a child and displayed them proudly. Even though baking wasn’t something Mom liked to do, she loved her sweets and treats like ice-cream, whipped cream and lots of butter. She enjoyed old movies, flowers and receiving special occasion cards. In her later years, she had a certain spot where she sat daily at Tim Horton’s for her tea. The staff there always made Mom feel special. Mom travelled to Florida, Ontario, British Columbia, Labrador and twice to Australia to visit relatives and friends. She is survived by her daughters Donna (Kevin) Myers Keating, Marg (the late Wayne Peters) Myers; son, Kevin (Mary Ellen) Myers; and grandchildren, Randy (Erica) Myers, Janeen (Jean LeClerc), and Michelle Keating; her sisters-in-law, Olive Henman and Florence Myers; and brother-in -law, Jimmy Edwards; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cyril (60 years married); daughters, Sandra (infant) and Carol Ann Myers; two brothers (one who died two weeks ago) and six sisters. Special thanks to the Oakwood Staff, especially Units A and D, for their gentle care and the Recreation Staff for the excellent entertainment for the residents; to Donna Vining a special caregiver for Mom and to Mary Blanchard who cared for Mom a short time at home. Many thanks to Dr. A. Gordon, Mom’s doctor for 40 years. Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Eastern Passage Funeral Home. The private Funeral Mass (by invitation only) will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday October 12, 2020 in St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Passage with Father Gerald David officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the seating is very limited. However, the funeral will be live streamed on You Tube. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scleroderma Canada or Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
