Memorial Donation
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of James Alfred Linden announces his passing on October 4th, 2020 at the Strait Richmond Hospital at the young age of 81.
James (Jim) was born into a family of loving brothers and sisters by James and Helen Linden of Louisdale. Although family members passed before him, including his parents, brothers James, Patrick and Ambrose; sisters Dorothy, Edna and special nephew, Blaine Linden, Jim was very close with his surviving brothers Dave and Herman Linden and sisters Julia Marchand (Toronto) and Jeanette George.
Jim was married to his life partner, Delores (Ranson) Linden for 59 years. They were blessed with six children; Giselle of Middle Sackville; Pat (Sharon) of Brampton, ON; Brian (Debbie), Prince George BC; Danette (Bradley), Middle Sackville; Darren (Gail) of Toronto and Tracey (Barry) of Lower Sackville. He was so very proud of all of his grandchildren, Alicia, Leslie, Jenna, JD, Connor, Brandon, Katie, McKenzie, Taylor and Aiden. He loved his great-grandson, Noah and was looking forward to meeting the newest great-grandchild of Leslie and Jordan.
Jim retired in 1997 after 35 years of work at NS Forest Industries (Stora). He started working at the Mill during its construction and remained there dedicated, even after the explosion that cause a permanent disability to his hearing.
Jim was always hard working, caring and community minded: in his younger years coaching baseball and making sure the kids had a place to play and in his later years, he joined the Louisdale Lions Club where he volunteered whenever he could. He was very happy to be in the organization and wore his hat with great pride. He loved his family, friends and community and gave 100% of himself in everything he did; never turning anyone away, making everyone feel welcome.
Jim was an incredible human being – not for being a politician, not for being a lawyer or a doctor, not for being a teacher, but for just being him… a kind, caring man with strong values who wore his heart on his sleeve every day.
As the days go by, please think of Jim. When flower baskets hang again in Louisdale, think of how proud Jim would be. When you see a proud volunteer wearing their Lion’s Club jacket or hat, think of Jim. When feasting on lobster, crab or clams, think of him.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Herman and Dave Linden, Connie Linden and Perry Marchand their help, love and support at this time.
A special thank you to the amazing Nurses and Doctors at the Strait Richmond Hospital who provided unbelievable care and comfort to Jim prior to his passing and were so supportive to our needs during the Covid restricted pandemic – we are grateful to all of you. Also, we want to thank Dr. McCormick and Dr. MacNeil.
Finally, Jim would want us to celebrate his life and remember him for his strength, values, love of family and his favorite saying, “I wonder what the poor people are doing today..” We love you, Jim. Until we meet again.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Strait Richmond Hospital, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
