Patrick John “Pat” Raleigh
July 27, 1927 – September 25, 2020
Passed away suddenly but peacefully at his home in Oakville on Friday, September 25th, 2020 in his 93rd year.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty”, younger brother James and younger sister Mary-Margaret.
Proud father of Tim (Kathy), Michael (Sarah), Catherine, Margaret (Mike), Stephen (Lesley), Peter (Linda) and Dan. Loving Grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Pat was born on June 27th, 1927 in East Kildonan, a small suburb of Winnipeg, Manitoba, oldest son of Eleonore (Brenner) and John.
In 1949, Pat graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba, married Betty in 1954 and moved to Northern Ontario where they started their family.
Ever the adventurous soul, Pat moved his growing family to Haiti, West Indies to work for Reynolds Aluminum and after a few years, eventually settling the family in Scarborough, Ontario.
While travelling the world in his role as Chief Engineer at Falconbridge Nickel Mines, Pat spent a few years in Chile, South America, where he was able to use his fluent Spanish to immerse himself in the culture and create lifelong friends.
Pat travelled the world for work, but his favourite travels were to visit with his many children, grandchildren and beloved nieces, spending many American Thanksgivings in Houston, Texas and Christmases in sunny California.
Ever the inquisitive soul, Pat was a voracious reader keeping his mind sharp with the latest financial publications, newspapers, and books. He was also an avid bike rider, pedaling around Oakville until his last days, and even winning a bike race in Florida at 92 years young.
His candor was appreciated, and his stories will be missed by many friends and family.
