With profound sadness, the family of Verna E. Hill announces the peaceful passing of our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Verna was born In Campbellton, New Brunswick to Lily (nee Patterson) and Alfred Strudwick, between brothers Murray and Arden. When Verna was three the family moved to Salmon Arm, B.C. where Verna grew up.
On September 24, 1951 Verna married H. David Hill and for fifty-seven years they shared their lives together, raising five children in the process.
Verna was a kind and gentle person who cherished her family and friends. She was an excellent bowler, a talented florist, an amazing seamstress, a great reader and a terrible cook with a green thumb! In the last year or so of her life she also developed a love for doing puzzles!
Predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Lily, her son Derek, brother Murray and beloved husband David; Verna will be lovingly remembered by her children: Darryl (Denise), Laurel (Jim) McDaniel, Gary (Dawn) and Garth (Anna); also by her 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Verna was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 12, 1997. She had a deep faith in the Bible’s
message of love and peace, and in Jesus’ words found at John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the
life; the one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.”
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Chemainus Healthcare Centre for the kind support and caring environment they provided to Verna during the nineteen months she lived in their community.
A private family celebration of Verna’s life will be held at a future date.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Verna Elizabeth Hill nee Strudwick December 22 1929
