Obituary
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Penticton Regional Hospital on September 15, 2020, age 85 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Lourdes; daughter Alice (Jody); grandsons: Dan (Krissy), Justin and Matt; his great granddaughter Olivia and many more extended family. He was predeceased by his son Carlos in 1983.
Jose was born in Ourondo, Portugal on January 27th, 1935 as the 6th born child of eight to parents, Maria Carmen Tomé and Joaquim Braz. He joined the military when he was nineteen years old in Portugal before marrying his wife in 1960 and moving to Oliver, BC in 1961 in search of a better life. He worked in various farms and orchards when he came to Canada before acquiring his own in 1967 where he raided his children. In 2012 he retired and moved to Penticton, BC to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Jose will be remembered as a generous, happy, and hardworking man whose main focus in life was to provide the best life possible for himself and his family. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and making his famous Portuguese wine.
A Prayer Service will be held at St. Ann’s Parish, 1296 Main St., Penticton on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 7:00 PM where a Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday, September 22 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.
