Roger Carriere 2020

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Roger Andre Joseph Carriere. Beloved son of Aline Carriere (nee Ross) and Joseph Carriere (both predeceased). Cherished brother to Josette, Denise, Cecille, Alcide, Gilles, Armand and Eddie Carriere. Beloved husband to Laurette Dorothy Carriere (nee Cloutier, predeceased) for 58 years. Roger passed away peacefully on September 2, 2020 at Health Sciences North surrounded by his family. He was 77 years old.
Loving father to Raymond (wife Carol), Suzanne (husband Fred) and Richard (wife Marie-Chantale). Loving grandfather to Shannon St George (wife Stephanie), Steven Somers (wife Jessica), Sylvia St George (predeceased), Sarah Coutu (spouse Kyle), Cory Somers (spouse Kelly Castilloux), Justin (wife Jasmine), Gabriel, Maxime (spouse Chardonnay Richer), Kelly Robitaille (husband Rob), Sheri Waddell (husband Dean). Loving great grandfather to Tia & Mavia Somers, Samantha St George, Madison and Delila Coutu and Grayson Vaillancourt, Taylor, Braydon, Colton and Bowen Robitaille, Ryker, Malik and Killian (predeceased) Waddell. Great, great grandfather to Emersyn and Sawyer.
Roger was born in the midst of World War Two, grew up in rural Val Caron and loved spending time in nature. He had an incredible work ethic, working as a miner for INCO, Falconbridge, Rio Algom and Dennison Mines from the 1970s to 1990s. In later years, he closed off his working career as a tireless 75 year old delivery driver for the Jutras Group to care for his ailing wife. Roger was a faithful provider for his family and caretaker. Being physically present and engaged was important to him. His children and grandchildren will remember him eagerly joining in on a good road or ice hockey game, play wrestling, attending concerts, sitting by the fire and being available for birthdays, holidays and special family events.
Roger was an introvert and a “lone wolf”. He cherished a walk in the woods by himself, with a family member or with canine companions as long as he had his trusty walking stick. Roger did not value material possessions, lived frugally and invested in his relationship with the people he cared about most….his family. He will be remembered for his gentle smile, healthy appetite and incredible physical health and stamina.
In the recent past, Roger and the “love of his life”, Laurette, enjoyed an Appreciation Night where family and friends showered them with music, gifts, words of love, appreciation and an endless buffet of food, fine coffee and desserts. Respecting Roger’s request, he wanted his family and friends to remember him from this special night. As a result, there will be no funeral or visitation. Thanks to the Cooperative Funeral Home cooperativefuneralhome.ca for cremation services and Health Sciences North staff for the supportive and loving care provided as Roger gloriously transitioned to a better place.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Roger Carriere 2020..
