It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Kraft on August 22, 2020, at the age of 79, at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta, after a short, but courageous battle with Cancer.
She is predeceased by her husband, Jack Kraft; her daughter, Rhonda Ricard; her son, Paul Kraft; her sister, Ruth Barca; and her parents, Jacob and Katherine Unrau.
Betty was born on the family homestead in Rheinfeld, Saskatchewan. The family eventually located to Taber, Alberta where Betty attended school. After graduating and going to secretarial school, she eventually moved to Regina, Saskatchewan where she met and married Jack Kraft. They lived in Regina for several years before moving to Esterhazy, Saskatchewan in 1968, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in 1972, and then finally settling in St. Albert, Alberta in 1981.
Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow up. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing card games with her family, and traveling.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sheryl (Joe) Zwierink, Warren Kraft, Dave (Jen) Kraft; nine grandchildren, Alyssa, Teagan and Nathan Zwierink, Cole Ricard, Maria Canfield, Samantha and Jacob Kraft, Katarina (Jordan) Elkow, and Aaron Perrie; brother, Alvin (Leslie) Unrau; brother-in-law, Frank (Brenda) Kraft; brother-in-law Roland Blain; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, on September 5, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at the Cross Cancer Institute and Unit 15 of the Sturgeon Community Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T6G 1Z2.
