Douglas Oran Lee Woodman 1946 2020

Obituary of Douglas Oran Lee Woodman
Woodman, Douglas Oran Lee – 74, of Smiths Cove, Digby County, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on Sunday, August 23, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Digby, he was a son of the late Clayton and Wilda (Winchester) Woodman.
Doug was a CPA/CFP working first at H.R. Doane and Company and then forming his own accounting firm Woodman and Melanson in Digby where he worked until his retirement. He continued to enjoy working during the yearly “busy season” at Sanford and Associates with Jeremy and his wonderful staff. Doug served the community on many boards including Digby Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts, ACOA, Digby Area Board of Trade, Digby General Hospital, Digby Lions Club, Tideview Terrace, and the Smith’s Cove Fire Department.
Doug also served as deacon at Smith’s Cove Baptist Church for many years. He valued his time spent with Reverend Mark Cress and his Bible study group.
Doug enjoyed time spent with his family, especially during the Christmas season. For the past few years he decorated the Winchester Farm with an outside Christmas tree which stayed lit until his birthday in February. Doug was fond of and appreciated his neighbor and friend, Ben, who helped Sylvia and Doug whenever he was needed.
To those who knew him, Doug’s quiet manner was interspersed with a dry sense of humour, terrible puns and an endearing but sardonic grin. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Doug was the beloved husband of 53 years to Sylvia (Marshall); loving Dad to daughter Julia (Brad) and son Christopher (Gail); proud Grandpa of Trevor, Dillin (Hayley) and Nicole (Ryan); and loving brother to Larry (Sue) and sister Susan (Bruce) Martin. Doug was predeceased his parents and by his son, Steven. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Due to concerns about COVID 19, a family only memorial service will take place at the Smith’s Cove Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Cress officiating. Burial will be in the Woodman Cemetery, Smith’s Cove. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory to “The Lodge That Gives”. The Lodge That Gives, 5826 South Street, Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 (902)-420-1849. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
