Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alban Joseph “Abby” Melanson on January 14, 2020 at Bobby’s Hospice, with his loving wife and grandson by his side. He was born in Moncton, NB on December 20, 1925 to the late Phillias and Marie (Allaine) Melanson and was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Barbara (Boyer) Melanson for 63 years.
Abby worked in Sales for his whole career. He started out selling roofing products with Brantford Roofing (Maritimes) Ltd in Coldbrook. When Brantford closed the factory, he moved on to MacFarlane Son & Hodgson and later to Schofield the Paper House, both Domtar companies, selling paper products, retiring in 1988. Abby loved sports. In his younger years he was an avid hockey and baseball player. He was a great sportsman and he showed remarkable grace and rhythm on a pair of skates. He was a strong man and a wonderful partner in life. He was an active member of Forest Hills Baptist Church serving as a Ranger in the Christian Service Brigade and singing in the choir for over 40 years. He was deeply committed to his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He was a quiet man who was always respectful, kind and generous. His family was always first with him. He treasured the time he was able to spend with them and especially time with his forever friend and the love of his life, Barb. Abby lived his life in such a way as to teach others how to live life and in dying, he showed others how to die, with grace and dignity….on God’s timeline. He created a lot of lasting memories throughout his life and will be deeply missed and always lovingly remembered.
He is survived by his best friend and wife, Barb; daughter, Korrin (Rev Bart) Metcalf; grandsons, Jonathan (girlfriend Jennifer Graves) and Nathan (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Carson, Adam and Alina; sister Rose Horgan; nephew Norman Melanson; nieces, Suzanne Bodaly, Elizabeth Horgan (Andy) Cusack and Elizabeth (Wayne) Hatt. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Kenneth Boyer (Kathy) of Quispamsis, sisters-in-law Geraldine Campbell of Fredericton and Kathy Nelson of Saint John, along with many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings; Leonard, Alderic, Aurel “Mike”, Helena, Edna and Aurora.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 9:30am-12pm at the Forest Hills Baptist Church, 36 Mountain Road, with a funeral service to follow immediately at 12pm.
