John Mackwood August 21 2020

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of John Jay Mackwood (Jack), on Friday, August 21 at the age of 66 years old. Forever remembered by his wife of 29 years, Patricia (Patsy), and his children, Tammy Jabs (Ken), Shane (Jody), Justin (Holly) and Payton. He will also be dearly missed by his 7 grandchildren, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, step-father Leon, mother-in-law Beverly, his Aunt Joyce, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many cousins, nephews and nieces and great friends Rob, Ramona, Judy, Don, Brent and many more.
John was born to Samuel and Dolores Mackwood in Innisfail, Alberta. He spent his childhood in Central Alberta and then travelled North to the home of the Oilsands. He spent many years working in Upgrading for Syncrude in Fort McMurray, retiring in 2009 to enjoy life on his acreage near Sherwood Park, Alberta.
While John was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and gardening, he was also well known for his caring heart, always willing to lend a hand, whether it was to build a deck or care for a sick friend.
He was preceded in death by his father Samuel and mother Dolores.
Many thanks to the staff at the General Hospital Palliative Care Unit, who took wonderful care of John during his painful battle with bone marrow cancer.
A celebration of life will be held later, due to Covid-19.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug your spouse, child, grandchild, friend, or walk in the woods for a moment, an hour, or a day. Time waits for no one.
Rest in peace Jack. XOX

  1. My deepest condolences to the family of Jackie. We were school friends from Bowden, and I’ll always have fond memories of him.
