Corey, Elizabeth (Betty) – 1937-2020
After a brief illness, Elizabeth “Betty” Corey went to be with our Lord in Heaven in her 83rd year, on August 20, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
She was the backbone of our family and will be forever missed until they meet again by her loving husband of 62 years, Gerald; her daughter, Cheryl and son, Blair, as well as her grandchildren, Dakoda, Braedin, Hailey, Brandon and Devon.
Betty, as she was known to her family and friends, grew up in Saint John on Chesley Street in the 30’s and 40’s, the daughter of Harry and Frances London. She loved to tell stories of her days on Chesley Street with her brother and cousins and friends.
In 1956 she met a quiet boy from Campobello Island who became the love of her life, and together they travelled from Canada to the US and back, finally settling in Saint John and built an amazing life together. Betty was a faithful Christian lady and was a proud member of Calvary Temple where she was involved in the Sunday School, Bible Study and the Women’s Groups. She had a ceramic business in Red Head where she lived for a while and enjoyed what she did.
The family would like to thank the palliative team of 3BN and Dr. O’Brien, especially for all the kindness and compassion they showed to both Betty and her family during her illness. We would also like to thank her sister-in-law Bev and her dear friends, Connie, Cindy, Janet and Sue Ellen for spending time with Betty during her days in the hospital. We are grateful for the visits, the prayers, the kindness and love and the food during a difficult time. While we grieve our loss here on earth, we know she is with her heavenly father – Until we meet again.
Betty was predeceased by her parents and both of her brothers, Harry and Arthur, as well as family from both the London and Corey sides of the family.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Saturday from 4-7pm. A funeral service will be held from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 24, 2020 at 4pm with a private family interment to be held in Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Tuesday. For those who wish, donations to Calvary Temple or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
