JENNINGS, Hersey Emma (nee Reid), 1930-2020
Passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on August 16, 2020 in the Southlake Regional Hospital, Newmarket, Ontario. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff for their care and support in her last weeks.
Hersey was energetic, industrious, hard-working and funny. An introvert at heart, nonetheless she delighted in the many friends and acquaintances she made over the 30 years she worked at the Kap Inn. She was a favourite among customers, many of whom would ask to be seated at one of her tables. She was proud to be from Kapuskasing, having lived there for 65 years.
Hersey was also generous and caring, values she learned growing up in Newfoundland. She remained close to her large, tight-knit family, never forgetting her roots. Intensely private, few people entered her close circle but one who did was Nora Foran. “Just like family”, each would say. To her own family, Hersey was a huge and enduring presence. She always will be.
Hersey will be greatly missed by her son Fred (Penny) and daughters Marylin Edwards (Keith), Susan Jennings, and Janet Russell; her siblings Margie Oram (Clyde) and Lloyd Reid (Blanche) of Newfoundland; sister-in-law Ruth Jennings; grandchildren Charles (Janice) and Robert (Sabina) who loved her rice pudding and mashed potatoes; Julie and Jason (Crystal); and great-grandson Laiken.
She was predeceased by her husband Herbert Jennings, parents John and Flora Reid, and siblings Kevin, Alwin, Eldred, Hilda, Selma and Lorraine.
A graveside service will be held in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Southlake Foundation (Southlake Regional Health Centre) or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
