William James Sayers
April 12, 1928 – January 10, 2020
1928-2020 (91 yrs.)
On Friday, January 10, at the age of 91, William ‘Bill’ Sayers passed away with his family by his side at Bluewater Health in Sarnia. He was the loving and devoted husband of Zoe (née Hillaby) Sayers (deceased 2016) for over 65 years. A cherished father, Bill will be sadly missed by daughters Dianne McCormick (Rob), Linda Weir (Russ), and Janice Martin (Henri-Luc); grandchildren Kim, Lisa, Carissa, Heather, Misty, Michelle, Chantal, and Jonathan; his 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Sheila Nettleton (Keith); sister-in-law Beth (Jack); sister-in-law Gloria Hillaby; brother-in-law Robert Hillaby; and his best friend Rick Dale. He was predeceased by his parents, Florence and Jack Sayers, siblings Jack, June, and Marion, and his in-laws, Betty and Ronald Hillaby.
Born in Brooke, Ontario, as the oldest of four children, Bill was the ultimate provider for his family, working at Prestolite from the time he was 16 until it closed its doors in 1978 and subsequently at Mueller’s until he retired, all while owning and operating Orchard View Park with his dear wife Zoe (1971-2008). Hardworking and tireless, he will be fondly remembered for his warmth, kind heart, generosity, sense of humour and occasional stubbornness.
Respecting Bill’s wishes, a private funeral will be held for immediate family only. Donations to Diabetes Canada would be welcome in lieu of flowers. Arrangements entrusted to the D. J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE. Memories and messages of condolence may be sent through [www.djrobb.on.ca].
The family would also like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care and support he received from Dr. John O’Mahoney, Dr. Glen Maddison, and all the nurses and staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Bluewater Health-Sarnia.
