Obituary of Peter LATENDRE
LATENDRE, Thomas (Peter)
October 3, 1937- August 10, 2020
Pete passed away on August 10th at the Victoria General Hospital. He was born in 1937 in Tweed, Ontario at the family farmhouse. His childhood included hard work on the farm but also lots of freedom to fish on the river and enjoy life. After graduation he joined the Canadian Forces as a Radar Technician in 1955 in Cold Lake, Alberta where he met Hazel Piche. They were married in 1961 and raised 4 children together. In 1972 he met Hazel (Franks) who became his second wife of 32 years. After his military career ended in 1979, Pete let his hair down and lived and worked the life he truly loved on his trapline and as a hunting guide in the wilds of the Precambrian Shield. After moving to BC in 1991 he settled on Vancouver Island where he built his dream home with Hazel in Qualicum Bay. After becoming a widower in 2006 he moved to Port Alberni where he renovated his last home of 14 years. After being diagnosed with Parkinsons and Dementia he moved into the long-term care home, Ayre Manor in Sooke in 2019 where he spent the last year of his life. He is survived by three siblings,Theresa, Rita (Gord) and Clair (Cathy); his first wife Hazel (nee Piche), and their four children, Rick (Tracy), Barb (Bob), Tom (Irene), Carmen (Claude), as well as four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Also surviving Pete are his step children Debra, Kelly and Shane and their families.
No memorial services are planned at this time.
