Memorial Donation
Andy passed away June 22, 2020 during a short stay in Moosomin Hospital. He was 89. Andy was the 6th of 10 children. The Hirney family moved to Rocanville, from Robsart, SK. in 1949.
That year, at age 18 he started working for Denzil and Wilma Sutton. He stayed for a year, left to drive caterpillar at Kelso, helped his parents for three years, then returned to the Sutton’s, in 1954.
Andy helped raise, show and sell Hereford cattle until 1969. Then, he stayed on as Herdsman for the Charolais. He became friends with many people from the livestock community.
In 1994 Andy retired, moving to a suite in the Rocanville Lodge. This gave him time to pursue his interests. Andy had a passion for Whist and Cribbage. He was active in the Seniors Card games, and completed hundreds of puzzles.
He came out of retirement, occasionally, to help Lorne and Joy McCorriston, (McCorriston’s Charolais), Moosomin.
He was involved with the happenings at the Museum and in particular the annual Threshing Day. At age 88 he was up on a rack pitching sheaves.
Andy was recently recognized by the Rocanville Senior Tigers hockey team for his long- standing attendance at the games, and support of their club.
Graveside service: Monday, Aug. 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Webster Cemetery, Rocanville.
Refreshments: Museum ground, after the service.
This service will be joint with his brother, Peter, who died in 2019.
