Obituary
Laurilee Fischer
It is with profound sadness and a sense of loss that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother and wife, Laurilee Fischer. Laurilee was born to Harold and Alvena Goebel and grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and Neudorf, Saskatchewan with her older sister, Barbara. She spoke fondly of her childhood days and kept in touch with many family and friends from her hometown throughout the years. Laurilee obtained her education degree through the University of Saskatchewan and started work in rural Saskatchewan at the age of 22. Soon after, she met her soulmate, Jerry Fischer. They were married October 11, 1985 in Neudorf and settled down in Luseland, Saskatchewan where they raised three boys, Jared, Joel, and Justin. Laurilee fulfilled her teaching career at Kerrobert Composite School where she was famous for her “funny bucks” with her grade 3 class. She was the staple of warmth, kindness, and compassion to colleagues and students alike. She never forgot a student she taught throughout the years.
Although Laurilee was proud of her career, her biggest accomplishment was raising three hardworking, determined men along with Jerry. She cherished every moment as the boys grew up and saved even the smallest keepsakes. As a mother, Laurilee was the consummate caregiver and unwavering fan in the stands at every hockey game. She rarely missed an event of her sons, nephews, and nieces. She radiated with pride when speaking of her family. She would have given anything to keep her family and friends happy and safe.
Outside of work and family, Laurilee loved music, theatre, and travelling. She embarked on many adventures with her sister Barb, her mom, Alvena, her good friend Carol, and many other friends and family. Jerry and Laurilee enjoyed their well-deserved tropical vacations every winter. Being recently retired, she was eager to take on more journeys and experiences. She lived life to the fullest between work and family.
Laurilee was community-minded and selfless in everything she did. She served on numerous town committees and volunteer groups throughout the years, even after her own children were grown. She was often the silent helper in the background, not wanting to take credit or attention for her work. Her humble and generous nature was admirable throughout the community.
Laurilee’s life came to an end after a short but courageous battle with cancer on July 24, 2020; however, she will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all those who knew her. Laurilee leaves to mourn her husband, Jerry; her children, Jared, Joel (wife, Tesa), and Justin (wife, Janelle); her sister, Barbara; her parents-in-law Bill and Darlene; and numerous nieces, nephews, coworkers, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Alvena Goebel; sister-in law, Donna-Lynn Nienaber; and brother-in-law, Wayne Waldbauer.
A private service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, July 31 at the Luseland Cemetery, with livestream video viewable to the public on the Luseland Mallards and Kerrobert Composite School Facebook pages. Please respect the family’s wishes during this time as numbers are limited based on COVID-19 guidelines. A come-and-go tea will take place after the service from 3:30 – 5:00pm at the Luseland Golf Course Clubhouse for those wishing to pay tribute to Laurilee and the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations are generously accepted to the Laurilee Fischer Memorial Scholarship through the Luseland Credit Union to honor her legacy.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Laurilee Goebel Fischer March 28 1962 July 24 2020 (age 58)..
