Obituary for
Brenda Burke
September 15, 1953 – July 22, 2020
Brenda Burke passed away suddenly after a brief illness with her family by her side at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Tuesday 22,2020.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Brenda in her 67th year was the beloved daughter of Rosaline Burke and the late Winston Burke, granddaughter of the late William and Mary Joseph, dear sister to Elizabeth Russell (Henry), Edmund Burke (Felicia), Evadne Ramalho, and Eton Burke (Sharyn).
Brenda was an amazing aunt to Pamela, Atiba, Stephen, Taurean, Eleza, Robyn, Jaren and Jada, and great aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Cousin to Attie, Pam, Mark, Roxanne, Cleon, Deidre and many others.
Brenda came to Canada from Georgetown, Guyana, in 1975. Shortly after arriving, she began working for Fines Foods in the accounts department. Twenty years later she took a job with First Air in their accounts department.
Brenda was very involved in the Guyana/Ottawa Association and enjoyed socializing with her fellow Caribbean expatriates, but she always made time for God, attending Knox Presbyterian Church on Lisgar Street, Ottawa.
Due to COVID restrictions funeral services are private. For those wishing, the service will be streamed using zoom and can be viewed on this site by clicking the webcasting link. Please contact the funeral home for information on date and time of the service.
Interment will take place at Capital Memorial Gardens following the service.
Special thanks to the ICU staff of the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their compassionate care given to Brenda in her final days.
