Kateryna Szyszka
March 18, 1926 – July 21, 2020
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother (Baba, Gramma, Great Gram, Great Great Gram) Kataryna (Kay) Szyszka on July 21st , 2020. Born on March 18, 1926 in the Ukraine, Kay arrived in Canada with her husband Mike in 1949 and settled in Ignace Ontario where she continued to reside until moving to Princess Court in Dryden Ontario in 2019.
Kay and Mike realized their dreams in Ignace, becoming business owners building and operating the Lone Pine Motel situated on Agimak Lake where they raised their 3 children.
Mom was a hard worker and at one time was a custodian at the Hi-Way Motel and the local school prior to working alongside Mike at the Motel where they both toiled for many, many hours throughout the years. Kay was an avid gardener and always had a large vegetable” garden that she tended to with special attention to her flower beds particularly the roses she so dearly loved.
Kay had many long-time friends in Ignace and throughout Canada and the United States who returned year after year to enjoy the beauty and comfort provided by Kay and Mike at the Lone Pine Motel. Many people remember the plentiful and delicious feasts she served to family and friends on special holidays. She made sure anyone entering her home always had something to eat whether it was a full course meal, a cookie or perhaps a chocolate and you just didn’t leave empty handed. Her kindness and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Kay is survived by her Daughter Sophia, Son John and Daughter Nadia. Also left to mourn her passing are her Grandchildren Sherry-Lee Reid, Duane, Coral and Rodney Szyszka, Marlin Carlson, Jordan and Kyle Lawson and their families. Kay felt blessed to have 12 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren and proudly remembered each of their names. Kay was predeceased by her Parents and a Sister, her Husband Mike, Grandson Dean Cameron, Sons-In-Law Scotty Cameron & Brent Lawson and her special cousin “Eddy”.
Kay’s family extends their deepest gratitude to her special friends who kept in contact with her and the many visits they made to keep her company during her time in Princess Court as well as the amazing staff and care givers of Princess Court for their tender care and concern of Kay during her residency there.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes there will be no service. Please stop and smell the roses every chance you get and think of Kay. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, the family would appreciate donations can be made to Princess Court DECO through Stevens Funeral Homes “Moffat Chapel” PO Box 412, P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be posted at www.stevensfuneralhomes.ca with our thanks.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Kateryna Szyszka March 18 1926 July 21 2020..
