Obituary of Maria Lewis – Downey
LEWIS-DOWNEY, Maria
On July 14, 2020, our world changed forever with the unexpected and tragic passing of Ryan’s mom and our baby sister, Maria Lewis – Downey, at the age of 49 as a result of complications from a scheduled surgery. She will be greeted in heaven by our dad, Brendan Lewis.
Leaving to mourn is the joy and pride of her life, her son Ryan, her mother Marie Lewis, her siblings Brendan (Dolores) Lewis, Gerard (Ros) Lewis, Janet Lewis, Andy (Lena) Lewis, Joe Lewis, John Lewis and Mary Ann (Roger) Grimes; nieces and nephews Danielle Lewis (Matt), Brad (Jessica and Lydia) Lewis, Brendan Lewis, Chris Lewis, Marc (Carla) Lewis, Leanna Lewis (Kyle), Michael Lewis and Andrew Lewis. Her fur babies Zoey, Rosie, Puss, Sheba and Daisy. Also her close friend Karen Humphries Spurrell, high school buddies who provided Maria with their care and support since reconnecting, Ryan’s dad Phillip Downey and grandmother, Linda Downey.
She was very proud of her work family at Newfoundland Power who have gone above and beyond in their support during this very difficult time, and the many, many people whose lives Maria touched and have now touched ours. She was a very special person and will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19, visitations and a celebration of Maria’s life will be held at a later date. A Fund is being created for Maria’s precious boy Ryan Downey.
