Finlay Robert’s Obituary
SUNNYBRAE – Finlay Robert MacDonald, 63, Sunnybrae, passed away suddenly Sunday, January 12, 2020 at home in the company of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John Russell and Dorothy Hughena (MacQuarrie) MacDonald. Finlay was a carpenter/bricklayer, having worked in construction for many years. He owned and operated Village Roofing until retirement due to ill health in 1997. During the 90’s, Finlay was a hockey coach with the Thorburn Golden Hawks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Finlay was a devoted family man, who possessed a candid humility and genuine concern for others.
Surviving are sons, Todd (Natasha), St. Pauls; James (Sherry), Sunnybrae; grandchildren, Anna and Jared; brother, Greg MacDonald, Sunnybrae; god-children, Damien, Bella, Gabrelle, Dominic and Dawson; sisters-in-law, Norma MacDonald, Oshawa; Jeannie (Andrew) Weatherbee, Truro; brothers-in-law, Douglas Holley, Toronto, Ont.; Percy Carter and Hal (Kari) Carter, Ottawa, Ont.; Mike (Rosemary) Carter, West Chester; Gordie (Corrine) Carter, Salmon River; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased his wife of 41 years, Julia Irene (Carter); sister, Christina “Teedee” Holley; brothers, Lawson and Malcolm.
The family will receive visitors 10 – 10:50 a.m. Thursday, January 16th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating. Cremation to follow with interment in Sunnybrae Cemetery at a later date.
